America is the “Land of the Free and Home of the Brave”. Over forty-one million American soldiers have died honorably defending that freedom. Yet, as a Nation, the very fiber of our freedom is at grave risk. The American corporation Monsanto has done as much to erode the founding principles of the United States of America as any external threat that we have ever faced. Two hundred and forty years after gaining freedom from England, we face another form of tyranny. Today’s threat to freedom has manifested itself in the form of corporate servitude and toxins injected into our food supply.
Extreme? Hardly. Let’s talk frankly about what the real issue is here. For many years to come society will debate whether GMO foods are bad for us. But folks, that debate is a moot point. Here is an unarguable fact about GMOs, their relationship to the toxins used to grow them is already killing us, poisoning our livestock, and contaminating the soil that we have fought for centuries to defend. The truth is, GMOs are designed to be grown with pesticides that cause cancer, control the freedom of farmers worldwide, and kill the workers who grow our food.
GMOs are deadly because of their dependency on toxic pesticides. The majority of GMO crops are dependent on the toxic herbicide glyphosate. Glyphosate, is branded as Roundup by Monsanto, the same company making the genetically modified seeds. Monsanto makes the seeds. Monsanto makes Roundup. Roundup and Roundup GM seeds account for 50% of Monsanto’s gross profits. Researchers have found that glyphosate is readily found in human urine samples in the United States. Glyphosate is in our food, in our land, in our water, and in us.
History Repeats Itself
Wake up call, our food supply has been hijacked by the same company that gave us PCBs, DDT, Agent Orange, and bovine growth hormone. The World Health Organization, WHO, has classified glyphosate as a probable human carcinogen. Of course Monsanto says otherwise. Monsanto also said DDT was safe until is was found to be giving folks around the world cancer as well as a multitude of other health problems. Monsanto said PCBs were safe until they too were found to be causing health problems, including cancer, worldwide. Sound familiar?
Haven’t we learned? Monsanto creates deadly chemicals for massive profits, buys Congress, the USDA, and the FDA, and then spins the facts until denial is impossible and the damage has been done. Meanwhile, Americans and folks worldwide die. Finally, when the deadly chemicals are banned, they fight against settlements that are eventually paid out, and Monsanto begins marketing the next toxic poison. The stunning tragedy is that we have been here before.
Fight for Freedom
GMO crops create dependence. Dependence on a company that has shown a century of disregard for American values. Dependance on a company that has brought death and illness upon millions of American families. Dependance on a company that has time and time again lied, fought to cover up the truth, bought our politicians and regulatory agencies, paid out settlements in court, and continued on while countless families mourn the loss of their loved ones.
Monsanto is spending millions of dollars to prevent laws that require GMO food to be labelled. Monsanto argues that there is no difference between GMO food and non-GMO food, and as such labels should not be required. (Sadly, glyphosate is also used on non-GMO crops, but these crops are not genetically engineered to be dependent on them.) Food labelling is American. We are free people who deserve a choice. Americans have the right to be able to know if the food we are eating was grown using glyphosate.
The United States is the land of free, and the brave fought for our right to make choices. Our health and liberty is threatened by Monsanto, a company that has a proven track record of lying to us and destroying American lives, and the lives people around the world. We need to join together to demand GMO food labelling, demand the ban of glyphosate, and demand that companies like Monsanto no longer get to buy our Government. No corporation should have the right to slap democracy and each one of us in the face. This is why GMOs are dangerously un-American.
